Dieter completed his Policing career at the rank of Inspector with the York Regional Police after 35 years. His roles included, but are not limited to, working in the Intelligence Bureau as the Officer in Charge, and the Emergency Response Unit as a tactical operator and team leader dealing with critical incidents, armed stand- offs. Hostage takings, weapons calls and the execution of high-risk search warrants. 


Dieter co-founded the York Regional Police Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) Team in 1995 which developed into today’s Peer Support and Wellness Unit.

  • Overseeing covert operations – undercover operators & investigations, informant management and Interception of Private Communication.
  • Overseeing VIP security and protective services.
  • Member of Greater Toronto Area police Joint Management Team directing operations to combat organized crime and extremism / terrorism.


York Regional Police – Detective Sergeant – In Charge of Investigations – 2009 to 2013

  • Mobile Support Unit and Strategic Analysis Unit – overseeing surveillance operations and intelligence / criminal analysts.
  • Drugs & Vice Unit – in charge of enforcement teams to combat controlled substances importation and trafficking, production of controlled substances (covert drug labs) and human trafficking.


York Regional Police – Drugs & Vice Unit – Detective – 2006 to 2009

  • In charge of an enforcement team combating the production of synthetic drugs and marihuana.


York Regional Police – Training Bureau – Sergeant – 2004 to 2006

  • Overseeing all Use of Force and Police Vehicle Operations training.


York Regional Police – Emergency Response Unit – Sergeant – 1999 to 2004

  • Team Leader – tactical operations dealing with situations beyond the safe operating limits of police officers given their normal equipment and training.


York Regional Police – Emergency Response Unit – Constable – 1987 to 1999

  • Tactical operator dealing with high-risk situations by performing the following functions:
  • Containment and/ or apprehension of armed / barricaded suspect(s).
  • Hostage Rescue operations.
  • Explosive Forced Entry.
  • High Risk Search Warrants.
  • High Risk Surveillance.
  • Response to Terrorism. 


York Regional Police – Uniform Branch – Constable – 1984 to 1987

  • Providing front line policing in a uniform capacity in Markham, Richmond Hill and Vaughan.
